The Magical Rubber Pants

This is going back to last summer, June 2004. It was a gorgeous afternoon and as always, I had a large load of freshly laundered diapers and rubber pants pinned up on the outdoor clothesline. It was quiet and the air calm, except for a slight refreshing breeze. I had been sitting on a lawn chair in the backyard when all of a sudden, I could here what sounded like the plastic rustling sound of a pair of baby rubber pants. Then out of the corner of my eye I caught the movement of one of the pairs of rubber pants that were pinned up on the wash line thrashing wildly and swaying back and forth.
At first it startled me but when I looked up, I could see a tiny little squirrel climbing around inside the rubber pants! It was the cutest little sight I have ever seen. Here was this little baggy pair of white rubber pants for babies drying on the clothesline with a small baby squirrel inside them. I watched the strange character thrashing around inside the rubber pants for a few more seconds. Then to add to the whole comedy of the situation, the squirrel decided that it had had enough playtime, and out it came through the elasticized waistband, back onto the clothesline. Then, as if to make a grand exit, it walked across each and every flannelette diaper as if to prove its point! I wish I had a video camera handy that day, for I'm sure the footage would have been a real hit on America's Funniest Home Videos!
