Locked Out

By Krista Mikulski

One afternoon when I was six months pregnant with twins, I locked myself out of our second floor apartment. OK, so that's no big deal, I could have gone to a neighbor and called a locksmith. BUT I was so determined to not get in trouble for paying for a locksmith again that I, right in front of the street, with only a small audience, scaled a fence, leapt to our balcony and pulled myself over the railing.

I was so proud of myself for making it, being overweight and out of shape, until I realized that the balcony door was closed and locked. Well then I did what any driven and determined mother-to-be would do -- I broke the lock. Yes, I did get in trouble for that. But at least it was something new!
